Funded out of their success in cryptocurrencies and technology consultancy, brothers Dale and Ryan Deacon founded EPIC in their hometown of Johannesburg in 2017.
Transcending work. Transcending play. The philosophy of EPIC. The nature of is being questioned. We here at EPIC are diving headlong into this issue. AI - Automation of processes is the epitome of productivity. Cognitive tasks are undergoing a major overhaul since the significant breakthroughs of the 2000's. Within the past decade AI has taken leaps and bounds: Apple's Siri handles natural language processing requests, IBM's Watson took the Jeopardy world title (2011), DeepMind's AlphaGo conquers the game (2015), OpenAI creates a bot that beats professional players at e-sport DOTA2 (2017), Alibaba creates an AI that outperforms top Stanford University students in reading and comprehension tests (2018). Every year, technological strides have been made in overpowering traditionally human-dominated tasks. VR - More and more, we spend our free time delving into the depths of virtual worlds. Social networks have supplemented our social lives. Similarly, online gaming has taken flight and now threatens traditional sports that have dominated the entertainment sphere. The trend for entertainment is that of virtualisation. We are automation. We are virtual reality. We are EPIC. |
